Denver mayoral candidate James Mejia today was appointed as the interim president and chief executive officer of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Mejia replaces Jeff Campos, who resigned today. Earlier, Campos was on leave from the Hispanic chamber in the wake of his arrest on kidnapping and assault charges resulting from a domestic violence incident.
Mejia, past executive director of the Hispanic Chamber, has led and managed some of Denver’s most important, complex, and challenging agencies and capital projects.
“I’ve been involved with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for more than 15 years, and I’m proud to help the organization move forward during a time of transition,” said Mejia. “The Hispanic business community is leading Denver toward economic recovery, and the potential growth for our members is limitless.”
The Hispanic Chamber Board has commenced a search for a permanent president and CEO. Mejia, who finished third in the race for Denver Mayor, does not intend to seek the full-time position.
“We appreciate Jeff’s leadership and the many contributions he made to the Hispanic Chamber during the last six years,” said Board Chairwoman Debbie Trujillo. “We’re fortunate to have a strong staff and an active Board who are committed to our members and to advancing the growth initiatives of Hispanic business owners.”
On Friday, Aug. 5, the Hispanic Chamber will host its fourth annual Sabor, a tasting of signature food from more than 40 of Denver’s top restaurants, wines, and beer from around the world. To purchase tickets and for more information, please go to www.sabordenver.com.
