Peyton Manning, Denver Bronco’s new quarterback, this week scored a new home, paying $4.575 million for a 16,464-square-foot estate in Cherry Hills Village, according to a published report and sources.
His new crib even has its own safe room.
TMZ reported today that Manning, who signed a five-year contract with the Broncos in March worth $96 million over five years, has purchased the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom house at 3995 S. Colorado Boulevard.
The home closed on Monday, but the paperwork does not appear to have been filed with Arapahoe County yet.
Sources told InsideRealEstateNews.com several weeks ago that this was the house that Manning was buying. The home was under contract at that time. Last month, IREN left a message for William Behan, the seller of the home, asking if Manning was buying it. Behan did not return the phone call.
Manning also recently looked at buying a penthouse on the 37th floor of the Four Seasons in downtown Denver, a source said, but instead decided to buy the Cherry Hills estate.
Earlier, Manning had been living in Mike Shanahan’s house in Cherry Hills Village. That house, with about 35,000 square feet, is more than twice the home he purchased. Shanahan formerly was the Bronco’s coach.
Linda Behr, of Fuller Sotheby’s International Realty, who was listing the home, did not return a call to IREN on Tuesday.
Behan and his wife, Catherine, paid $5.734 million for the home in 2005, according to record. In other words, they took almost a $1.2 million loss with the sale. It is unclear whether Behan is a Broncos fan or his stance on replacing Tim Tebow with Manning.
Mitchell Right,who built the home in 2004, and sold it to the Behan family, said whether they are Bronco fans never came up during the sale, when the high-end housing market was booming.
“I have no idea,” said Right, owner of Right Construction.
He also didn’t know that Manning was the new owner.
“That’s wonderful,” he said.
But he did think that Manning got a Super Bowl-worthy deal at the price he paid.
“Well, we sold it for close to $6 million and I think they put close to another $1 million into it, so I would say he got a fantastic deal,” Right said. “The whole house is just spectacular.”
While records show Behan paid just over $5.7 million, Right said that is not accurate.
“We sold it for $5.99 million,” he said. “We sold it before the crash. Originally, we listed it at more than $7 million and we lowered the price to $5.99 million and sold it in a week.”
The two-story, Georgian-style estate sits on almost 3.4 acres. It includes a two-story rotunda, an elevator on all three levels, a safe room/ gun-room, a billiard room with a full bar, a wine cellar, a computerized management system, an attached dog room with an indoor/outdoor heated kennel, as well as a seven-car heated garage.
“It’s called a seven-car garage, but believe me, you could park eight cars in it,” Right said.
There is an exercise room, of course.
Right noted that he now is a full-time general contractor.
“If he needs any renovations or wants to make any improvements, he should call me,” Right said. “I know that house inside out. It is a marvelous home. I say congratulations to him for buying it.”
