The TAXI 2 building received the American Institute of Architect’s Colorado Merit Award, in the “Built Architecture” category. Joining TAXI and Zeppelin Development in receiving the award were David Baker & Partners, Alan Eban Brown Architects, Will Bruder & Partners and Harry Teague Architects.

The selection follows the building’s 2008 AIA Denver Honor Award for Design.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by Colorado’s architectural and design community, and a distinguished New York City jury comprised of architects and architectural writers,” said Kyle Zeppelin of Zeppelin Development, which conceived and developed TAXI at 3455 Ringsby Court.

“TAXI has established itself as the cutting edge place to live and work – defining the New Workplace,” he continued. “We’re very proud of what we’re accomplishing here, both for the people who live and work at TAXI and as a catalyst for the interesting development along the South Platte River and in the River North Neighborhood. This and the other awards the project has earned from the design community reinforce River North as the place for innovative real estate development in Denver.”

Deborah Berke FAIA chaired this year’s New York City based-jury. Berke, a New York institutional-commercial-residential designer, is noted for contemporary, contextual design and insightful writings.

Comments from the jurors about the TAXI 2 design ranged from: TAXI shows “creativity and wit, suggesting boldness-toughness and then going for it” to “looks like a fun place to live.” Jurors were intrigued by the Main Street qualities of the public spaces in the 550 foot-long building and the “many ways one can move through this long skinny structure.”

TAXI provides efficient spaces that promote collaboration; sustainable features and extensive amenities including the gourmet FUEL café; a fitness center and pilates; great access to downtown and Interstate 70 and nearby recreation. Located just north of Coors Field on the South Platte River, TAXI Phases 1 and 2 include 130,000 square feet of office and commercial space and 43 residences. Upon completion, the 18-acre campus will include more than 800,000 square feet of mixed-use space.
